The Institute of Translation Arts (ITA), University of Ilorin, originated as the Centre for Translation Art (CTA) following approval by the University Senate on 24 August 2012. The Centre was established to promote translation and interpreting as means of bridging linguistic and cultural divides and facilitating communication across languages.
In 2015, the Centre became the Institute of Translation Arts, reflecting an expanded mandate encompassing professional translation and interpreting, training, research and multilingual communication.
Over the years, the Institute has provided translation and related language services and contributed to the development of professional and academic capacity in translation. Its activities have included the translation of academic, institutional and official documents and engagement with Nigerian and international languages.
The Institute is presently strengthening its mandate through professional training, interdisciplinary research, multilingual services, Nigerian-language development, language technology and strategic partnerships.
